Who am I? Well, that's a loaded question. Trying to encompass the whole of a person in a few paragraphs is quite a task. But I'll give it a go.
I am a native Nashvillian. That's a rare bird these days. I remember in the 4th grade (1980) our teacher had a map on the wall with a pin in Nashville and asked everyone to put a pin in the town they were born. Of the 30+ kids in the class, only two put pins in Nashville. We have only gotten to be a smaller and smaller portion of the Middle Tennessee population.
I have always been a computer nerd. I received my first computer (a Texas Instruments TI-99/4A) when I was still in elementary school. I started writing code for that machine (usually games) soon after. That was followed up by numerous Tandy machines and then PC clones. I majored in computer science in college and began taking whatever computer related jobs I could find.
After college, I was lucky enough to get a job with J.C. Bradford & Co., a Nashville-based investment bank. My first job there was second shift computer operator. I spent the first few months writing code to do my job so I didn't have to. That code was still running in production the day that PaineWebber bought JCB.
I spent the next few years bouncing from one broker/dealer to another and climbing the corporate ladder. But with the last buyout (thank you, death of Glass-Steagall), I decided to move onto something different and I now work for a software company that serves the independent grocery industry.
I have been a musician since I was old enough to sit at the piano. I play guitar, keys, and sing. I have been in numerous bands over the years and even had the chance to record an EP with some well-known rock band members.
I am a huge Tennesse sports fan (Titans, Preds, and Vols) and love to watch my daughter play volleyball. She just finished her collegiate career and I am so proud of her. She's now off to med school.
And finally, I am married to the most wonderful woman I have ever met. I couldn't ask for a better life.
If you need to reach me, you can email me at (my first name)(my last name)@gmail.com (you know what to do) and my PGP public key is located here.
